Finance minister becomes Luxembourg foundation board member
Luxembourg's Finance Minister Yuriko Backes has been appointed as a member to the Board of Directors of the Fondation de Luxembourg.
The Fondation de Luxembourg, founded in 2008, finances humanitarian projects such as training courses for young immigrants and buying hospital equipment through donations made by individuals or business.
Backes became Luxembourg's first female finance minister after she was nominated into the role in December, succeeding Pierre Gramegna, who had held the role since 2013.
Backes, a career diplomat, is the former marshal of the Grand-Ducal Court. In the past, she has held numerous positions on the national and international level, including the deputy head of mission at the Luxembourg Embassy in Japan, Permanent Representative of Luxembourg to the European Union, representative of the European Commission in Luxembourg, diplomatic adviser and sherpa to the Prime Ministers of Luxembourg Jean-Claude Juncker and Xavier Bettel.
