The DKV Urban Trail, held in Luxembourg City on Sunday, proved extremely popular in the sunny weather, with more than 3,000 runners participating and many spectators along the various routes.

The aim of the event's six routes was not only for participants to enjoy the running event but also to soak up the heritage of the capital as they passed various tourist attractions and lesser-known sites.

The main trails were 34, 27, 18 and 13km long for the ninth edition of the event.

Athlete Frazer Alexander proved triumphant for the main race of the day.

The 35 year old finished the 34km course first in 2.24'35''.

The first woman over the line was Susanne Loewen, who came in at 3.05'58''.

Organisers said they were pleased with the interest in the event.

For the four main routes alone, 2,996 runners were at the start line, not counting two other adult and two children trails – a new record.
