‘Pics or it didn't happen’ - Instagram has undoubtedly changed the way we live and share our lives. Especially when it comes to travelling, people are increasingly drawing their destination inspiration from Instagram.

Despite its size, the Grand Duchy offers an abundance of picturesque spots to fill your Instagram feed. With its lush surroundings – both in and outside of the city centre – the green heart of Europe offers a charming blend of new and old.

We have picked some of our favourite spots to inspire you to (re)discover Luxembourg and get your creative juices flowing.

In the City

Neimënster

The old Benedictine abbey, formerly used as a prison, is a cultural melting pot that seeks to promote Luxembourg’s cultural identity. Next to concerts, theatre plays and various exhibitions, the location breathes history and is simply stunning for photos.

Grund

Recognized by the UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, the fortified lower part of Luxembourg city with the Alzette river running through, offers many great photo opportunities. Amidst cobbled streets, stone buildings and quaint bridges, you can be sure to find a spot that looks like it’s straight out of a postcard, albeit a classic one.

Mudam

Jenny Biver

If you’re an architecture fan, the contemporary art museum Mudam is the spot for you. The futuristic glass design is built directly into the ancient fortifications of Fort Thüngen, making it a place of contrasts. Both the inside and outside of the building, which was designed by Chinese-American architect Ieoh Ming Pei, is well worth a visit.

Fort Thüngen

Located just a stone’s throw away, the underground tunnels and mines of Fort Thüngen in the Dräi Eechelen Park, dating back to the 1730s, tell the story of Luxembourg’s fortification. From there you can admire and capture stunning views of the city across the valley.

Péitruss skatepark

Jenny Biver

The ultra-modern skate park in the heart of the Pétrusse Valley is surrounded by greenery and blends seamlessly with its historic surroundings, acting as a worthy reminder that Luxembourg City is full of surprises. An ideal spot for action filled photos with a classy touch.

Pont Adolphe

Jenny Biver

Once the biggest stone arch in the world, the silhouette of Pont Adolphe itself is a symbolic appearance. But it’s from the pedestrian lower deck that you can shoot iconic pictures for the ‘Gram.  Through the arches you have a fantastic view on the city, the Gëlle Fra, the Cathédrale Notre-Dame and the Pétrusse valley, all in one.

Avenue de la Liberté

Jenny Biver

Pont Adolphe acts as a sort of gateway to an entirely different part of the city, leading onto Avenue de la Liberté. Many of the buildings along the avenue have national monument status, once housing banks and the headquarters of Arbed, later Arcelor Mittal. Today, they manifest Luxembourg’s economic independence and political freedom.

Gare

Jenny Biver

Gleew un dech – believe in yourself, is one of the many colourful messages that accompanies you up the stairs from Quai 1 at the Gare. The artwork is the product of Inter-Actions, an organisation that works together with people living on the streets. Add some colour and spread positive vibes with this photo location.

Outside the City

Esch Belval - The Belval blast furnaces

Jenny Biver

In the south of Luxembourg, the Belval blast furnaces that pay tribute to Luxembourg's industrial history make for an impressive backdrop. Another place of contrasts, where the industrial remnants, that were in operation until 1977, have been brought into the present. Even better is to catch them beautifully lit as part of Esch2022.

Ansembourg

Built in the first half of the 17th century, the castle of Ansembourg is one of the 7 castles in the Vallée des Sept Chateaux. Renovated by a Japanese religious organisation, the castle and enchanting baroque gardens with statues, fountains and fantastic flower gardens, are what fairy tales are made of. If you are looking to spread a little magic in your feed, this is the place to go.

The green heart of Europe

Jenny Biver

It’s not for nothing Luxembourg is nicknamed just that. More than a third of the country is home to lush forests, green hills and valleys, impressive canyons and meandering rivers. Don’t miss what’s right in front of you when hunting down the perfect picture!
