An apartment building in the south-west of Luxembourg was completely evacuated on Sunday afternoon after a fire broke out in one of the flats.

The incident occurred at about 4:50pm in the centre of Pétange on Avenue de la Gare and firefighters rushed to the scene.

They quickly established that the blaze originated from a kitchen in one of the apartments and managed to contain it within the room, before eventually extinguishing it.

However thick smoke that filled the stairwell, meant that all residents in the building were evacuated as a precaution.

No less than 28 emergency services workers and six firefighters were at the scene as well as two ambulances and several police units, however no injuries were reported in the incident.
