The number of people applying for asylum in Luxembourg reached the lowest number in three months at the end of November, with 100 applications received by immigration authorities.

(CS) The number of people applying for asylum in Luxembourg reached the lowest number in three months at the end of November, with 100 applications received by immigration authorities.

This was down from 126 applications for international protection in October and 119 in September. However, November remained the month with the third-most applications this year, with the number of applicants seeing a big boost in the second half of 2013.

Figures remain considerably below those of the last two years, however. In November 2012, Luxembourg saw 120 people apply for refugee status, compared to 177 the year before.

The November applications bring the total number for this year up to 1,011, well below the 1,988 applications received over the same period of time in 2012.

The highest number of applicants came from Kosovo (15), followed by Bosnia Herzegovina and Serbia (both 12) and Montenegro (11).

On the whole, Luxembourg has granted only 132 applications for international asylum this year, compared to 837 refusals. The processing of applications can take up to three or four years.
