Bertrange was the scene of a great haunting on Saturday evening when 400 ghouls, princesses and pirates participated in the annual candy-fuelled trick or treat event.

The little monsters roamed from house to house in the Cité Millewee district collecting sweet treats ahead of Halloween, on October 31.

The event was organised by the American Women's Club of Luxembourg (AWCL) to provide children with a safe place to participate in this traditional American rite. Each year the AWCL buys sweets and distributes them among participating homes to hand out to the children.

Proceeds raised from the event go to the Landstuhl Fisher House in Germany, a base for families of patients receiving medical care at major military and medical centres. During the last two years, the AWCL has donated more than 10,000 euros to this cause.

As well as gorging themselves on sweets, youngsters were able to fuel up on savoury food at a hotdog stall. KBL bank, meanwhile, opened its car-park up to parents of young trick or treaters during the event.

The next AWCL event will be a silent auction held on November 14.
