Bettel could announce easing of Covid restrictions
Prime Minister Xavier Bettel and Health Minister Paulette Lenert could announce a further loosening of coronavirus restrictions on Wednesday afternoon, with the number of cases in Luxembourg slowly falling and more people getting vaccinated.
The ministers will hold a press briefing at 4pm, just 10 days before current Covid-19 restrictions are due to expire.
The Grand Duchy opened outdoor terraces for bars and restaurants on 7 April as a first step in a gradual return to normal, with Lenert telling broadcaster RTL at the end of April that the rules might be eased again by mid-May.
Luxembourg has now handed out more than 206,000 vaccination doses to residents and last week entered the final phase of its vaccination programme, calling up people aged 54 or younger to get a shot. Over 20,000 volunteers have signed up to get an early injection after the government opened a first-come-first served waiting list for the AstraZeneca jab.
