Police have urged vigilance after a number of scam faxes and letters were received in Luxembourg falsely informing people they can claim money from a deceased person.

According to Luxembourg Police, citizens, companies and even the police department were contacted by letter or fax and informed they could claim money from a person who had died by completing a form and providing their personal banking information.

“The sender usually has their headquarters abroad. What is striking is that the fax is written in poor German,” the police press office said.

They stress that such claims are fraudulent and are operated by scammers trying to obtain personal banking information from people.

They urge anyone who receives such a letter or fax not to reply.
