In total, 540 candidates from nine parties are running in the elections with 60 seats available in parliament.

Two new parties have joined the line-up since the last elections in 2009. The Pirate Party was formed shortly after the last elections and the PID, or "Partei fir Integral Demokratie" was founded in the aftermath of the SREL scandal by Jean Colombera, formerly of the ADR.
