(ADW) Another case of a mysterious car fire in the south of the country occurred on Saturday night, this time in the centre of Esch-sur-Alzette.

The fire department and police were called to the Grand Rue in the town where a parked car was already ablaze.

Firefighters tackled the flames while a house close by with eight occupants, was evacuated as a precaution. Luckily however, the fire was extinguished before it could spread further and the residents able to return back to their home in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police are treating the car fire as arson and an investigation has been launched.

This is by no means the first case of unexplained car fires in south Luxembourg, likely to be arson. In March two cases were report; one in Rumelange and another in Esch-sur-Alzette where four vehicles were destroyed by fire.
