Cars & tents damaged as storm strikes camping expedition
(ADW) A camping expedition in Goeblange forest near Steinfort was abandoned on Friday after a big storm struck on Friday night. Falling trees damaged several cars, one of them completely crushed.
It was the annual archaeology “Camp der Geoerges Kayser” and two large sleeping tents, a kitchen tent as well as a storage area were all damaged by wind and falling trees and branches.
Luckily however, all participants of the camp took the decision not to stay in the forest when the storm approached, but shelter in a local sports hall. An extremely wise decision considering the damage and debris the storm left in its wake. Nobody was reported injured in the incident.
The archaeology camp was not the only casualty of Friday storms as emergency services across the country were called out about 70 times in varying degrees of emergencies.
