Claude Wiseler wants to be CSV top candidate
(MV/NG) Claude Wiseler announced Tuesday morning on RTL radio his desire to be the next head of the CSV in the legislative elections of 2018.
The current head of the parliamentary group of the CSV is the first to clearly announce that he would like to lead the largest party of the country in the election.
Two other party heavyweights had announced some weeks ago to have been thinking about it. Former European Commissioner and current MEP Viviane Reding had declared that she "could imagine returning to the national stage." Before her, the former Minister of Finance, Luc Frieden, had meanwhile also expressed interest in returning to national politics.
Currently, the party doesn't have a specific timetable to designate the next leading candidate. At the forthcoming extraordinary meeting of the CSV on March 19, the party will elect a new national committee which will define the way forward.
Claude Wiseler further expressed hope that the appointment of the leading candidate for 2018 will take place in the shortest possible amount of time, stating, "It's important for the image of the party to quickly decide on this issue."
