Climb a blast furnace in Belval
(CS/LE) The former Esch steel site towers above the new Belval development and visitors can now enjoy the view across the Cité des Sciences from the top of one of the blast furnaces.
With no lift available, visitors are asked to wear solid shoes for the roughly 80 metre climb up the tower, which opens to visitors on July 4.
Making the blast furnace accessible to visitors forms part of a plan to incorporate the former steel site into the new look of Belval. Refurbishing the premises cost some 40 million euros, as several thousand tonnes of steel had to be cleared, new floors had to be installed and tens of thousands of square metres had to be covered in new paint and varnish.
On July 4, 5 and 6 a special festival will mark the opening of the furnace for visitors. On Friday, the furnace will be open for visitors from 4pm, with music from 8pm and late into the night. On Sunday there are guided tours from 10am until 11.30am. Reservations can be made at firstname.lastname@example.org or +352 268401.
From 12pm to 8pm, the furnace is freely accessible.
The same opening hours apply on Sunday, when there is music from 11.30am by a local music group.
