Coalition agreement halfway there, says Bettel
(CS/jm) Government “formateur” Xavier Bettel said on Sunday that around half of the coalition agreement has been finalised, with less than a week to go until the coalition partners want to close negotiations.
Bettel commented that the DP, LSAP and “déi Gréng” will meet day and night for the next week if they have to in order to complete the coalition agreement by November 29.
He added that good progress had been made over the weekend, but that the reports from three working groups were still outstanding.
These working groups, including the ones dedicated to the judiciary and public institutions, continued their talks on Sunday afternoon.
While not revealing any details, Bettel said that an agreement on the indexation of wages had been reached; however, tax policies still need to be finalised, he added.
Coalition partners also appear to be in agreement over the direction to be taken over Cargolux and the proposed deal with Chinese investor group HNCA to buy the former Qatar Airways minority share.
The other parties and the outgoing government are set to be informed on Thursday about the new coalition's stance on the matter.
