(JB) Non-Luxembourg nationals who have been living in Luxembourg for five or more years can now register to vote online.

Thousands of non-native residents who are eligible to vote in October's communal elections may lose their right if they do not register at their commune before July 14, 2011.

To make it easier for voters, the government has added a tool to its one-stop shop website for communal information.

By visiting www.macommune.lu residents fulfilling the criteria for voting (aged 18 or over and living in the country for five or more years) can register to vote any time of the day at the click of a button.

For those on the move, an iPhone/iPad app offering the same service is available from the AppStore. Residents are warned that not all communes have subscribed to this online tool.

From September this year, the website www.macommune.lu will also be translated into English, Luxembourgish and Portuguese.
