5 'dangers' of summer in Luxembourg
by Lisa Fuchs
With the last weeks heat wave hitting down on Luxembourg it is hard to ignore the fact that summer has arrived. It is time to watch out for the dangers summer in Luxembourg brings, as listed below. Keep calm and stay safe!
Vitamin overload on the weekly farmers market
Sure, Place Guillaume has this thing going on all year, but come summer and the explosion of colors, fresh local fruit, berries and weird vegetables is unavoidable. Just one trip there on a sunny Saturday might get you hooked, and suddenly you find yourself going back every week, stocking up on healthy food. Common side effect: good mood.
Too much music
It seems there is something going on almost every weekend. Open air concerts in town and Neumunster seems to be bubbling with Jazz. Anyone who visited the Blues and Jazz festival of Clausen and Grund these last years knows how addicting it can be to stroll around from stage to stage on a warm summer evening with a cold beverage in hand. Possible side effect: big smile on your face as you slowly wander back home afterwards.
Too many beautiful parks and green areas
How is anyone supposed to choose? Last year my husband and I found ourselves walking from park to park in town. Stopping to sit down on a bench here and there, watching the birds and the unbelievable well kept flowerbeds and plants. We spent a whole day outside and definitely suffered from the very common side effect: feeling totally relaxed.
Over the top landscapes
You have forests that look like they came right out of a storybook, an overload of castles and wine yards like straight out of a commercial. Where do you go first? Getting the whole family to agree on which hike to take can be tricky. And once you have agreed and later arrived at you destination you find yourself almost alone. Who are you supposed to fight for parking? Where is everyone? A warning here – the peaceful solitude will spoil you
Too much fun
And just when you think the summer is over and you are safe again, Schuebefouer opens up with its merry go rounds, fun houses and Gromperekichelcher.
All of that, combined with the sunny kind of weather we seem to have this year so far, leaves you at great risk of getting a natural workout from all the moving around outdoors. You might feel happy, relaxed, re-charged. You might even get a bit of sun on your skin, which we know boosts our Vitamin D levels and fights away depressions.
Jokes aside – summer in Luxembourg is amazing. Go out there, relax in the parks, take a hike in the beautiful nature, eat local fresh food from our farmers and enjoy the music!
Nice cream recipe
Finally, inspired by the recent temperatures, today's healthy recipe is a milk free, vegan, ice cream. Also called nice cream. Three ingredients and a mixer is all you need.
For 2 portions:
Freeze 3 bananas, peeled and in pieces. Once frozen place the pieces in a mixer, add a spoon of your favorite nut butter (I love 100% hazelnut butter) and ½ teaspoon vanilla powder. Mix until smooth. Serve right away, with nuts, fruit, berries or any other topping of your choice.
