Debate on cheaper taxis moves forward
(CS) In a bid to make the capital's taxis cheaper and more consumer friendly, Luxembourg mayor Xavier Bettel has met with the taxi drivers' association, with further meetings already scheduled.
At the meeting on January 27 no conclusions or agreements on pricing were reached. However, ways to make taxis more customer and environmentally friendly were discussed, for example the use of hybrid cars.
When it comes to lowering prices the taxi drivers' association seemed unwilling to compromise, as they said that small customer numbers in Luxembourg made it impossible to lower prices if they were to remain profitable.
Representatives from the Luxembourg commune and the taxi drivers' association are set to meet again on March 9 and it is hoped that a solution will be found before the summer.
