Derailment causes train delays
(JB) Train commuters travelling between Arlon and Luxembourg faced long delays this morning after a train was derailed in the early hours.
The accident occurred at Kleinbettingen station at about 2.10am, resulting in the cancellation of at least three trains between Luxembourg and Arlon. Normal service resumed around 8am.
The country's railway service CFL explained that the damage was low-level. A spokesman said in a press release: “One of the construction wagons became mounted on a portion of a rail switch and part of it fell near the rail".
It was the second accident involving trains in a week. On Monday a suicide near the Namur railway station, in Belgium, led to rail delays between Luxembourg and Brussels.
