(ADW) A digger truck went up in flames at Itzig recycling centre on Saturday afternoon. Visitors alerted the fire department but not before snapping a few shots with their mobile phones.

When the fire department arrived the vehicle was completely ablaze and with foam extinguishers tackled the fire that completely destroyed the digger. The driver escaped unharmed.

Hesperange fire department reported that more and more ‘spectators’ to the incident appeared wanting to snap photos of the drama, putting them in danger and making the rescue all the more difficult for firefighters. “We often lose vital minutes” stated fireman Laurent Blum.

The report from the fire department stated that incidents where witnesses take out their mobile phones to capture scenes such as fires, rather than making an emergency call first, were sadly on the increase.
