Dress for Success charity hopes to boost women's careers
(MSS) The charity Dress for Success, known across the world for donating suits to underprivileged women to help them find jobs and build up their confidence, is starting up in Luxembourg.
Making a good first impression is important – especially at a job interview. You should arrive on time, provide the best answers possible and look your best.
But with no job or money coming in, how are you supposed to pay for new clothes, such as a business suit to wear to a job interview?
In 1997, Nancy Lublin from New York addressed exactly this question. Looking to help the women of Harlem and with 5,000 dollars in her pocket, she founded a charity and named it Dress for Success, which eight women are now bringing to Luxembourg for the first time.
Dress for Success helps women get back into the labour market by giving them a suit once they have a job interview and providing them with a personal shopper and a mentor.
“It may sound basic, but it's all about giving the women confidence so they can launch themselves into a work place. And that can be hard if you don't have financial independence,” said Jill Griffin, president of Dress for Success Luxembourg, at Thursday's press conference.
Jill Griffin and her co-organisers now looking for help from sponsors and volunteers, with finding a location where they can welcome the women and store the clothes a top priority.
Donations to Dress for Success Luxembourg can be made at ING Luxrmbourg LU35 0141 8490 0880 0000 (BIC: CELLLULL) with more information soon available on the Dress for Success website.
