Driverless bus service comes to Luxembourg City
Following the news that Luxembourg's first driverless bus service will operate in the town of Contern, another route has been announced for Luxembourg City.
Starting on Thursday, the autonomous bus will shuttle between the Pfaffenthal lift in the valley to the train and funicular station close by.
Eric Zorn, head of communications and innovation at bus company Sales-Lentz, told the Luxembourg Times: "This is a project by the Ville de Luxembourg, and the buses will have the City's Multipicity design on them."
The route will be officially launched at 4pm on Thursday, 20 September, in the presence of Luxembourg City mayor Lydie Polfer, transport minister François Bausch and several other politicians.
Each vehicle has seating capacity for 14 people and standing room for four passengers.
Zorn said the line would be operated by the City's AVL bus service, and that the driverless vehicle will travel just under a kilometre between the Pfaffenthal/Kirchberg train station and funicular hub, and the Pfaffenthal lift that rises to Luxembourg City centre.
Just like Contern, the Luxembourg City service launch has been timed to coincide with European Mobility Week.
