Footfall on the rise at Lux-Airport
Lux-Airport is getting busier after hitting the 2 million passenger mark for the year in mid-September, the earliest time recorded since it opened.
The symbolic milestone was exceeded for the first time in December 2013 and the second time last year, in mid-October.
Lux-Airport handled more than 266,000 passengers in September 2015, up 10 percent from September 2014.
Traffic was up 7.6 percent for the year as a whole, reaching a total of 2.04 million passengers at the end of September 2015.
The overall traffic at the same period a year earlier amounted to 1.9 million passengers. Growth in terms of aircraft movements was less spectacular, up by 2.9 percent in September and 2.2 percent for the year as a whole.
This is explained by a higher occupancy rate and the use of larger capacity aircraft which together optimise the operations at Luxembourg Airport.
September was also the month of the maiden flight of Chalair, an airline that serves Lyon from and to Luxembourg daily, Monday to Friday.
