The European Central Bank and the eurozone's national central banks will reveal a new 10-euro note in January 2014, following the release of a new 5-euro note this year.

(CS) The European Central Bank and the eurozone's national central banks will reveal a new 10-euro note in January 2014, following the release of a new 5-euro note this year.

The note will be presented on January 13, 2014, and is expected to feature a portrait of the Greek mythological figure Europa in its hologramme and watermark.

Further details of the new look bank note have not been announced.

Replacing the current design, which features bridges and archways in the style of Romanesque architecture, the note will then be issued later in the year, with the exact date to be announced at the January presentation.

The delay is to allow handlers, such as shops or payment machine operators, to prepare for the switch. A special partnership programme has been rolled out to facilitate the introduction of the new note.

The old notes will be gradually phased out.

The new notes are said to be safer and harder to forge. Over the coming years all euro notes will be replaced.
