New name for Dexia BIL?
(JB) Dexia is expected to undergo a rebranding exercise, which will see the recently nationalised bank change its name.
Belgian daily De Standaard reported the rumour this week, saying that the rebranding was a bid to start afresh after the Franco-Belgian bank's brand had been tarnished.
The Dexia brand has been in existence since 1996 when Crédit Communal de Belgique and Crédit Local de France merged.
Dexia BIL, the institution's private banking wing based in Luxembourg, is currently in negotiations with a group of Qatari investors regarding a buy out from the Dexia group.
Although a Dexia BIL spokeswoman said that there has been no discussion about a rebranding, it too may undergo a name change when the purchase deal with new shareholders is agreed in order to drop the “Dexia” link.
