Stationery produced in Luxembourg is the first of its kind to receive a carbon emissions gold star.

(JB) Stationery produced in Luxembourg is the first of its kind to receive a carbon emissions gold star.

The Carbon Trust awarded its Carbon Reduction Label to DuPont™ Tyvek® mailing solutions produced by Luxembourg-based DuPont de Nemours.

The environmental certification was granted via the product's distribution firm, Bong AB, in light of the material's low-energy production methods.

Bong AB markets the stationery throughout Western Europe, Poland and Russia and applied for the certification after it measured the carbon footprint of its operations and products.

Bong AB European Product Manager Bill Callcut said: “We're delighted with the results. It gives our customers reliable and independently verified data on which they can make decisions about the environmental benefits of competing mailing solutions. And it gives us a benchmark against which we can measure our success at further reducing the carbon footprint of our warehousing and distribution processes.”

As part of the certification, the firm must next focus on reducing the carbon impact of its warehousing an distribution processes.

DuPont™ Tyvek® packaging is recyclable, light-weight and waterproof. It is made of pure HDPE5 fibres, which avoid the use of toxic materials such as bleaching substances and phthalates. Because of its lightness, the energy required to ship packaging is considerable lower than that required to transport cardboard or other materials.
