(CS) Steel workers gathered in Esch/Alzette for a demonstration on Tuesday afternoon to protest against the difficult negotiations for a new collective working agreement with ArcelorMittal.

Officially, the demonstration was aimed at “defending the achievements of workers in the steel sector,” according to a statement issued by unions OGBL and LCGB.

However, with negotiations for a new collective contract dragging on for months, and even the national conciliation office unable to solve the conflict until now, the demonstration on Tuesday was clearly meant to send a strong signal to ArcelorMittal.

Should no agreement be reached between the employer and staff representatives by the end of this month, unions can call for strike action.
