English language drama at Luxembourg's solo theatre festival
(JB) Theatre fans are in for a treat as the Fundamental Monodrama returns from June 10, when 17 shows will be performed across three venues, with some of them in English.
The English-speaking line-up of solo performances kicks off with “Death Journey”, an improvised piece by Iraqi journalist Hind Al-Harby, who recounts her journey from Iraq to Luxembourg.
First performed on February 23, Hind will return to the Kasemattentheater for on June 14 at 8pm for a second showing.
On June 15, viewers can watch “Sea Sick”, by and with Canadian Alanna Mitchell at the Banannefabrik in Bonnevoie. The story is a powerful and deeply personal story about the uses of science and a journey to the bottom of the ocean.
Returning to the Middle East, on June 17, Banannefabrik hosts “Turaab” (Arabic for sand, soil, cemetery) by and with Lana Nasser, a physical performance about the mysteries of the Middle East.
The festival concludes on June 18 with Monolabo, a series of performances starting from 7pm at Banannefabrik. Among the English-language highlights will be “Still”, a plurilingual performance, “Dem Eli seng zwou Këschten”, by and with Elisabet Johannesdottir, about reconnecting with her motherland, Iceland and finding one's place in the world.
Then there will be “A Lithualien in the land of bananas”, about a seven-year-old girl displaced from Lithuania to luxembourg in the 1990s and finally “Tohid” a musical performance by Tohid Tohidi.
