Fighting spirit at the Coque
(JB) Luxembourg's annual rally against cancer got underway on Saturday evening at the Coque leisure centre in Kirchberg.
During the opening ceremony, a number of former cancer patients and carers described their harrowing experiences with cancer before joining the "Survivor and Caregiver Tour" of the running track.
The uplifting and life-affirming event will see more than 10,000 people run, walk and cycle in relay teams over 12 or 24 hours.
Relais pour la vie is a chance for people to show solidarity with cancer patients, to show support for their families and to remember those taken away by cancer.
It also raises funds for cancer research in Luxembourg and for support and care facilities.
The relay ends with a moving candlelit ceremony on Sunday at 5pm. Candles are placed inside paper bags which are decorated with images and messages created by participants in the event. All are welcome to attend.
