Foodies will have a new excuse for dining out in Luxembourg after restaurant guide publisher Gault&Millau released a new book dedicated exclusively to the Grand Duchy.

“A taste of Luxembourg 2016”, released on October 26, is the first guide to be produced by the experts specifically covering 75 Luxembourg eateries, shops and producers. “Diners want taste and quality, above all,” said chief editor Philippe Limbourg, adding: “We wanted to shine a light not only on Luxembourg gastronomy but also on the artisans and producers known and unknown.

"The entire country deserves to be discovered or rediscovered for its terroir, its products and tables. That is why we decided to launch this project.”

The book is compiled of reviews carried out by secret diners at each of the restaurants featured. But, its content remained a well-kept secret until the launch at a gala dinner at Casino 2000 on Monday.

“The inspectors for the guide worked as they always do, no-one knew that their restaurant was being inspected, or selected before receiving the invitation for Monday,” a press release said.

The Guide honoured Fabrice Salvador of the restaurant “La Cristallerie” as 2016 chef of the year. New restaurant entries, meanwhile, include in the 14 out of 20 grade, Elch, the house of Lefèvre and Postkutsch. In the 13/20 category are l’Ecuelle, le Lion d’Or and Mamma Bianca, while in the recommended list are B13, Leweck and Mi & Ti.

La Cristallerie and Le Windsor climb the ranks from 15 to 16/20 while Two6Two was given two chef's hats (toques) with a score of 15/20. Rising to 14 out of 20 are Cibo’s and Oro e Argento while la Pomme Cannelle receives one chef's hat with a score of 13/20.

During Monday's launch, Gault&Millau honoured Dominique Rizzi as personality of the year.

"A Taste of Luxembourg" 2016 was officially on sale in shops from October 27 at a price of 15.95 euros.
