Forest fire strikes east Luxembourg

Summer may still seem reasonably far away, but unfortunately Luxembourg's first forest fire of the year was reported on Sunday evening in the east of the country.

Several hundred square metres of forest and undergrowth went up in flames in the area of Bigelbach, near Reisdorf, east of Diekirch.

Local fire brigades rushed to the scene to tackle the blaze taking two hours before it was completely extinguished.

Details of how the fire was sparked are not known at this stage and an investigation has been launched.
