(CS) Economy Minister Etienne Schneider joined a ceremony for the laying of the first stone of a new 16,000 square metre business centre dedicated to biotechnology, environmental technologies and ICT.

If all goes well the new House of Biohealth in Esch/Alzette will open its doors in 2014, as part of an effort to diversify Luxembourg's economy away from the financial services sector, branching out into biotechnologies, environmental technologies and ICT.

The private-public project will offer 10,000 square metres of laboratories, with room for between 500 and 700 researchers and their teams.

The shape of the building itself was inspired by the DNA double helix, and it is hoped that the structure will promote communication between the different companies and teams, which will set up their offices in the House of Biohealth in years to come.
