(CS/gs) Online crime is surging in the Grand Duchy, with police warning the public of another online scam, with fraudsters posing as a special cyber crime unit.

Surfing online a page will pop up telling the user that the computer has been blocked because of violations of the law. The page asks the user to pay a fine online which will unlock the computer.

Tricksters are reportedly posing as the German federal police, the French “Gendarmerie Nationale” or the Luxembourg police.

The Grand Ducal police force is warning internet users that it runs no such online payment programme and the site is a fake.

Should such a page pop up on your computer, police advise a thorough malware check.
