More than 40 museums in Luxembourg open their doors for free this weekend under the initiative "Invitation to the Museums", the grouping of museums "d'stater muséeën".

Launched in 1997, the annual initiative is now in its 19th edition, to celebrate International Museum Day anniversary, that was actually marked last Wednesday.

On Saturday and Sunday, Luxembourg museums right across the country are offering a varied cultural programme for the whole family, with guided tours, workshops, performances, meetings with artists, lectures, concerts and activities for children to raise awareness and stoke cultural interest.

"Luxembourg boasts having a multitude of museums across the country that specialise in areas as diverse as history, nature and art. This ‘open doors’ initiative is a special time to visit this museum heritage and enjoy a wide and eclectic cultural offering ", states a communication from the organisation.

The initiative that has been gaining more and more public - about 15 thousand people for the 2015 edition - is an excellent opportunity to freely enjoy the permanent collections of major national and municipal museums as well as many temporary exhibitions that will guide you through the history of art and archaeology, natural sciences, steel, traditions and customs of the past.
