Full steam ahead as “Minettpark” opens for new season
(ADW) Sunday saw the start of the new season for “Minettpark” in the south-west of the country, for visitors to once again enjoy the sights and sounds of old steam trains and the mining network.
“Minettpark” is a new name, grouping together several mining and rail attractions including Pétange, Fond-de-Gras, Lasauvage and Saulnes. It offers a hands-on historical experience of Luxembourg's mining and rail past.
Probably the best known attraction in the area is the 1900 Train at Fond-de-Gras, however another highlight is the historic locomotive “Cockerill 503”.
Until September 25, historic steam trains will chug up and down the tracks on Sundays and all holiday except June 23. All travel timetables can be found on the website minettpark.lu.
Exhibitions and museums at the "Fond-de-Gras" will be open on the same days, from 2pm to 6pm.
In the summer trains will also run on Thursdays from July 14 to August 11.
