Going, going, gone!
(CS) Demolition work at Boulevard Hamilius in town is progressing quickly, with a new timelapse by the City of Luxembourg now showing how much has already been achieved.
Around 10 seconds in the first changes become visible as roofs of the buildings along Rue Aldringen begin to disappear. Floor by floor the houses disappear until the bulldozers finally move in to demolish the rest.
Work has also begun on the buildings facing Boulevard Hamilius.
The entire block, except for one building the owners of which refused to sell to make way for the Royal Hamilius project, will disappear.
The Hamilius bus station was closed at the beginning of June to allow for the demolition to progress. It will not reopen in the future, however, as the area will be turned into an open square outside the post office.
Construction on Royal Hamilius should begin next year, with the first shops in the complex to open in 2018. While above ground lots is happening, the Aldringen car park will also be completely refurbished over the coming years.
The big construction site joined the major renovation works at Pont Adolphe, with works for the tram to be added at a later stage.
