It was recently announced that Esch-sur-Alzette would accommodate 300 new asylum seekers at the “Quai Neudorf” site; however, it has now been revealed the property will actually only have facilities for 150 people.
The Mayor of Esch, Vera Spautz, confirmed the information during a council meeting on Friday morning.
The town has now informed the government of the situation and a dialogue between Interior Minister Dan Kersch and local representatives including Spautz, has already taken place.
Following the meeting, the decision was made to halve the original planned intake of asylum seekers at the location and house just 150.
The decision will be officially announced later in the day by the Council of Ministers.
