(JB) Traditionally, a north American festival, Halloween appears to have cast a spell over Luxembourg where a quarter of residents will hand out sweets to trick or treaters.

According to a survey by TNS Ilres, one in two respondents surveyed showed an interest in the spooky celebration and a fifth would decorate their homes for the festival.

Over a tenth said they would go to a Halloween-themed event while 5% said they would organise a celebration.

One in ten said they preferred to watch a horror film at home and 8% said they would dress up.

The proportion of respondents indulging in fancy dress rose for younger respondents: a quarter of under 24s said they would dress up. Finally, 4% of respondents said they would accompany children trick or treating.

The survey results showed that interest in this festival diminished with age with half of over 65s saying they had no interest in Halloween.
