Luxembourg Health Minister Paulette Lenert is recuperating at home after a brief hospital stay this week, the ministry said on Thursday.

Lenert suffered a "malaise" on Tuesday and had "a brief stay in hospital for a medical check-up", the health ministry said in a statement. Lenert had missed a press conference on Wednesday at which she and Prime Minister Xavier Bettel had planned to provide updates on the country's fight against Covid-19.

The ministry statement did not specify whether Lenert required medical care due to suspicion of a possible stroke, as reported by the German-language newspaper Tageblatt. A ministry spokeswoman did not respond to messages from Luxembourg Times seeking further details.

Lenert told RTL that she would recover at home for three weeks before returning to work. The government did not say whether a caretaker would be brought in to lead the health ministry through the pandemic and a sluggish vaccine roll-out until Lenert's return.
