(CS) There is still hope that a one-month-old baby reported missing last week is alive, a spokesperson of the prosecutor's office has said, also asking for understanding that not more information can be released at this point.

The baby girl, born on June 6, was reported missing on July 3, with very little information released by the prosecutor's office. Only the date of birth and name, Bianka Bisdorff, were given in an appeal for information.

Many members of the public commented on social media that they were unable to help with no details provided over the circumstances of the disappearance.

Deputy prosecutor Doris Woltz in an interview with RTL, however, explained that the strategy pursued was in the best interest of the child and the investigation. The goal was to find the child alive, she said, adding that the baby is not where she is meant to be.

Publishing the name and date of birth without any additional information had been unavoidable, Woltz commented.

Following a tip-off, a wooded area and river near Lingen and Pétange were searched on Monday.

Bianka, however, still remains missing.
