Jude Law is coming to Luxembourg
(JB) British heartthrob Jude Law will perform in Luxembourg in 2017, the Grand Théâtre revealed on Tuesday when it released its new season line-up.
Law, 43, will perform in “Obsession”, a play inspired by a Luchino Visconti film and directed by Tony Award winner Ivo van Hove, from June 23 to 25, 2017.
It is not the only English-language highlight in the new agenda. Following on from the success of “Mamma Mia”, which attracted 20,000 spectators in Luxembourg, comes “Kiss me Kate”, a coproduction from Théâtre du Châtelet and the OPL with music by Cole Porter, (October 15 to 20, 2016 ).
Opera fans will have something to sink their teeth into with Puccini's "La Boheme" (December 18 to 22, 2016) and Verdi's "Simon Boccandegra" (March 29 and 31, 2017). But they can also discover Stravinsky's "The Rake's Progress" (February 3 and 5, 2017) and Vivaldi's "Asilda, regilda di Ponto" (May 31 and June 2, 2017).
Dance is still very prominent in the programme with the return of the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch with "Vollmond" (from December 7 to 10, 2016) as well as Akram Khan, Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker, Peeping Tom and the Nederlands Dans Theater 2.
Among the hotly tipped emerging acts are the Canadian Marie Chouinard (February 16 and 17, 2017), the Australian hip hopeurs Antony Hamilton & Alistair Macindoe (March 22 and 23, 2017) and the new collective of Luxembourg and international artists Argonauts, led by Philippe Talard (October 1 and 2, 2016).
It is the second season overseen by new theatre director Tom Leick, who made a splash in his first season when the two theatres achieved record attendance levels of over 60,000 from 2015 to 2016.
