A square for the people, named by the people
(JB) The curtain has been raised on one of the most important meeting points at the new university campus in Belval- The Place de l'Académie.
The square's new title was chosen on Friday by the Esch commune from a list of 48 names suggested by the public.
The commune had launched a competition in April this year, in which it appealed for the public to think of an appropriate name.
The final choice was revealed at the square's inauguration on Friday and had been mooted by local policeman David Galetto, who lives just 70 metres from the site.
Formerly, the meeting place was known as the Stahlhof under Belval's original guise as an iron foundry. It is located beside the old Möllerei furnaces and the newly constructed Belval Plaza.
Other names proposed for the square included the Cour de l'Acier (steel courtyard) and Place Franz Clement, after the Luxembourgish artist.
