(ADW) It seems that scammers are finding more and more unique ways to attempt to con the public. Police were recently alerted to a drinking-water selling scam in Luxembourg City.

Several City residents have been contacted by phone by someone claiming to be from the City’s water company stating that the water supply they were using was currently undrinkable. Therefore, on behalf of the City commune, they would “kindly” supply temporary bottled drinking water, at a cost of course. This payment would then be reimbursed by the commune.

The scam alert was announced in a police press release, although whether anyone fell for the scammer’s ploy was not mentioned.

Two things are certain however; there is no problem with the City’s water supply and it is perfectly safe to drink, and no water company or the commune would sell bottled water, especially over the phone!
