(JB) Buses taken out of circulation in Luxembourg City after fires broke out on similar models are back on the road, the local authority has reported.

The 14 CITELIS articulated buses from IVECO/IRISBUS were removed from service on August 18 after three separate fires were reported at the end of July and beginning of August.

The City authority said tests showed that faulty alternators had been the cause of the fires. The alternators were replaced in each of the vehicles.

“Once this replacement was made, the bus manufacturer certified the vehicles were safe to drive and authorised their return into circulation,” the City said in a statement, adding: “For maximum safety, the City of Luxembourg has decided to increase the frequency of inspections for buses.”
