Luxembourg City dives into outdoor swimming pool project

It seems surprising that Luxembourg City has never been home to an outdoor swimming pool. That is likely to change as one is planned "in the near future", explained Simone Beissel the City's deputy mayor.

It seems surprising that Luxembourg City has never been home to an outdoor swimming pool. That is likely to change as one is now planned "in the near future", explained Simone Beissel the City's deputy mayor.

There are of course three indoor pools in Bonnevoie, rue de Bains and under the dome of the Coque sports centre but not one that is open-air.

Following a recent council meeting the city has taken the plunge as it was decided an open-air pool should be planned soon or “the coming years”. The construction should also have the ability to close the roof as, let's face it, Luxembourg weather can be quite unpredictable.

Just where the new pool is to built has not been made public yet or is not known. A proper public plan has to be presented first before anything can take place.

In view of the high cost for such a project, it was not deemed economically viable to construct a swimming pool that would only be open in summer. Therefore the council dived into the idea of a building with a mobile roof , meaning it can be used all year round including by associations and school classes.
