Luxembourg cultural leader receives prestigious award

Outgoing director of the Abbaye de Neumunster's cultural section, Claude Frisoni, has been awarded the insignia of the Grand Order of Merit in recognition of his work.

Outgoing director of the Abbaye de Neumunster's cultural section, Claude Frisoni, has been awarded the insignia of the Grand Order of Merit in recognition of his work.

The director, who leaves the Abbaye de Neumunster's “Centre Culturel de Rencontre” (CCRN) to retire in 2014, received the order from Luxembourg's Culture Minister, Octavie Modert, on Thursday.

The honour was awarded in recognitiion of Mr Frisoni's “dedication and commitment to culture in Luxembourg”.

During a special ceremony, Ms Modert praised the director's contributions when Luxembourg became European Capital of Culture in 1995. Thanks to Mr Frisoni's vision, she said that the CCRN had become a “centre of cultural influence”.

She said: “Culture in Luxembourg owes him a lot.”

Mr Frisoni is expected to be succeeded by Ainhoa Achutegui, currently director of the CAPe cultural centre in Ettelbrück, pending approval by the new government.
