Department store and roof terrace for new Royal Hamilius
(CS/DL) Final plans for the Royal Hamilius project are taking shape, with a big department store to set up shop in the capital and a new roof terrace will offer 905 square metres of additional green space in Luxembourg City.
The Luxembourg commune's council on Monday evening approved the “devis de travaux”, which includes further specifications for the project, which was green-lighted in October.
Among them are plans for two open spaces, accessible to the general public, with one of them a large roof terrace of 905 square metres.
The second is an open square in front of the post office, which will be framed by two new buildings.
Department store and supermarket
The Royal Hamilius shopping centre will also feature a large department store, a supermarket, as well as several smaller shops, the DP's Lydie Polfer revealed on Monday.
The council also recommended to the residents of 49 Boulevard Royal, the owners of which have refused to join the project, to plan the refurbishment on their building in line with the Royal Hamilius construction work.
The owners did not settle with the City and their building will be the only one in the block between Rue Aldringen, Boulevard Royal and the Grand Rue that will not be demolished. However, in return, the building will have to be refurbished for its exterior to match the new development.
Demolition work is set to begin in early 2014 and construction is estimated to take around four years.
