A town centre road was closed for more than an hour after a traffic accident in which a van rolled onto its side.

Boulevard Grande Duchesse Charlotte in the centre of Esch-sur-Alzette was cordoned off to other traffic following the collision at around 10.30am on Friday.

According to a police report, the van attempted to pass through the junction of Boulevard Grande Duchesse Charlotte and rue de Belvaux but did not give priority to motorists on the boulevard.

As it pulled into the road, it was in collision with a car crossing from Boulevard Pierre Krier into the same road.

The force of the collision propelled the van across the intersection. According to witnesses, it spun around before rolling onto the roof and coming to a rest on its side by a set of traffic lights.

Both drivers suffered shock and were taken to hospital for minor injuries. The vehicles were written in the collision.
