Driver killed in tree crash
(ADW) A Belgian driver was killed in a road accident early on Thursday morning on the N8 when he crashed head-on into a tree by the side of the road in Gaichel, direction Kreuzerbuch.
The man was negotiating a right turn when he lost control of the car, skidded off the road and crashed into a tree. Police believe that the driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident as he appeared to have been ejected from the car. He was found lying by the wreckage when emergency services arrived.
After the initial impact, the VW Golf rolled over several time and came to a stop about 20 metres from the tree.
When the ambulance services arrived, they discovered the 46-year-old man was already dead.
As well as Luxembourg police, Belgian officers from Arlon were also present at the scene. In order to carry out an investigation and salvage operation, one lane of the N8 was completely blocked for an hour.
