Drunk driver caught after high-speed accident
(CS) Police in the early hours of Thursday morning stopped a drunk driver who, it turned out, was already banned from driving until the end of next year for a previous offence.
A police patrol in Rue de Belvaux in Esch/Alzette spotted a car speeding at 80km/h around 2.30am. Ordered to stop, the car fled in direction of Ehlerange. Just outside of Soleuvre, however, the motorist lost control of his vehicle, crashing right outside of a house.
Hitting a street lamp post, the car slammed into a parked vehicle, breaking through a wall and finally coming to a halt after crashing into another vehicle parked in the driveway of a home.
The driver had to be rescued from his car, which was engulfed in smoke, and was taken to hospital.
A breathalyser test showed the driver to be drunk. Additionally, 3 grammes of marijuana were found in the car.
Police also discovered that a driving ban until December 2016 had previously been issued against the man. The man's licence was confiscated and he is facing further charges.
