iPhone 5 available October 15! ....
"If I believe what we were told, the iPhone 5 will be released on October 15 and if the date is confirmed it will of course appear in French stores”. A rather bold statement made by Stéphane Richard, the chief of France Telecom-owned, Orange. If his declaration proves to be true, Luxembourg’s release date could also be mid-October.
The announcement came during an interview on the French Business TV Channel BFM Business.
October 15? For weeks now rumours have been bubbling away on the internet with iPhone fans, techno-geeks and bloggers all searching for the tiniest of details regarding the launch of the iPhone 5. Certainly the message, although still not 100% certain, stated by Stéphane Richard, was eagerly lapped up and raced around the web.
But what about the manufacturing of the phone itself? iPhones are made in China and Taiwain and a recent report stated that workers at Apple’s manufacturing plants in the region have been slapped with a holiday-ban for the time-being. Evidence enough for some that this is in relation to the imminent iPhone 5 production. However production and release dates are two different things.
Of all the rumours circulating, certainly the message from Orange CEO Richard Stéphane, is one of the most significant. After all, Orange is one of the biggest distributors of the iPhone, present in a large number of countries in Europe and indeed further afield. Orange is in fact the fifth largest mobile phone operator in the world.
iPhone5 or iPhone 4S?
Whether or not the iPhone 5 will be available in France or even Luxembourg in October, is still up in the air, but haven’t we seen this before? Isn’t this another one of Apple’s clever “grapevine” marketing tactics? Most of us still have absolutely no idea how the iPhone 5 will differ from iPhone 4, yet here we all are scrambling for any inkling of a clue so that we know just when we can wait in line once again to buy it, discarding our iPhone 4 in the process.
Perhaps we won’t see the iPhone 5 at all this year. Possibly the iPhone 4S will arrive instead. A souped-up version of the 4, the 4S boasts a more powerful camera with a few other tweaks to make the phone worthwhile.
Richard’s announcement has also been hit with scepticism from avid iPhone fans, as Apple is not in the habit of releasing products on a Saturday, the day October 15 falls on. But then again, who knows what they will do? Isn’t Apple’s unpredictability and clever hyped-up, rumour-generated methods it’s most important asset? The fact that this article demanded to be written in the first place is possibly proof enough!
Added to that, one of the most used search phrases used on this very website is, yes you guessed it, “iPhone 5”.
So Luxembourg, prepare your wallets for the iPhone 5 release in mid-October! ...... possibly.
